Introduction

Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga is a national level non-profit organization institute in New Delhi. The establishment of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga was established by the Government of India with the sole aim of promoting yoga all over India. It is established by AYUSH department, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of
India. It is popularly known by the nickname “MDNIY”.

History

Morarji Desai was the 4th Prime Minister of India after Indira Gandhi. He was also the first non-Congress prime minister i.e. first Prime minister of Janata Party of India. He was a part of Congress but later he joined Janata Party. He had done maximum contribution in his tenure. He restored friendly relations with arch-rivals China and Pakistan. He also vowed not to
declare any armed war against Pakistan after the war of 1971. He also conducted the first-ever nuclear test of India. He was honored with Nishan-e- Pakistan, the highest civilian award of Pakistan. This institute is named in honor of him.

MDNIY was established in 1970 in New Delhi as a hospital by now-defunct Central Council for Research in Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy, under the Vishwayatan Yogashram. In 1976, it was converted to institute with the name Central Research Institute of Yoga. In 1988, it was renamed as Morarji Desai National
Institute of Yoga.

Facilities

Following are the facilities provided in the MDNIY:-

  1. 2,818-acre campus
  2. Conference hall: It can accommodate 50 people and has visual audio facilities.
  3. Auditorium: Can accommodate 140 people
  4. Library: Consists of 9000 books of yoga and related topics
  5. Practice(Kriya Block): Practicing yoga for 30 people
  6. Academic Block: Classes
  7. Out-Patient facility: Consultancy services offered by therapists, physicians, and dieticians
  8. Laboratory: Physiological and Biochemical testing
  9. X-ray unit and multimedia Centre with the visual audio facility.
